If you can only watch one TV show in your entire life, I urge you to see Family Guy. Many people think that Family Guy is a gross, crude, mess-of-a show but actually it is an extremely successful and well-written satire. A satire is a genre that makes fun of other shows, actors or even events.

The characters on Family Guy are incredibly well thought out and all have rich backstories which add a lot to the show. One example of a rich backstory is that of Peter Griffin’s story, the main character. In the beginning the viewer knows next to nothing about Peter, so the writers slowly build up his backstory over time. Another example of a well thought out character is Meg Griffin, played by Mila Kunis. The writers go in depth about Meg, giving detail about her personality and annoying attributes. It is obvious that Meg is hated on the show by almost everyone except maybe a few side characters.       

Many voice actors star in this show, one of which being is Seth Macfarlane. Seth Macfarlane voice acts more than three main characters on this satire: Peter, Brian-the-Dog, and Stewie. In addition he also voice acts many other background characters and recurring characters. Not only that but he created and directed the show! Another voice actor is Alex Borstein who plays Peter’s wife, Lois Griffin. A third voice actor is Seth Green who plays Peter’s son, Chris Griffin.

Family Guy has a variety of different types of episodes. Some are just plain inappropriate and others are very clever. In almost every episode of Family Guy, Peter does something stupid and tries to find his way out of the situation. Sure it’s funny, but it can get boring. To stop the viewer from being bored the creators make a side story with different characters doing random activities. A viewer never knows what to expect. Another type of episode on Family Guy involves the characters Stewie and Brian  (the baby and the dog). This is a type of musical episode charting their epic adventures. 

Although Family Guy has it’s flaws, it is still near television perfection. I would give this show a 9.5 out of 10 though, because it is inappropriate at times. However, I would definitely recommend Family Guy to anyone who is above the age of eleven.
