Fahrenheit 451
Fahrenheit 451, the film directed by Francois Truffaut in 1966 was based on the novel of the same name written by Ray Bradbury. Some of the main characters were Guy Montag, a fireman who starts off not liking books then at the end does, played by Oskar Werner. Julie Christie played a seventeen year old girl named Clarisse and also Linda Montag. The captain, the man in charge of the firemen and disliked books, played by Cyril Cusack. I thought the film was not a good, to many key details were changed.
Fahrenheit 451 presents a dystopian society where reading books were illegal. The firemen in the film burned things down instead of putting them out, mainly books. Guy Montag a fireman who loved to watch books burn became one of the people who loved books. After meeting this girl Clarisse she really made his thought on his life change. Keeping this secret from everyone is hard for him and makes Montag worry. In the end Montag meet up with the people that are called book people and lives his life out with them. The book and film have the same summary, just some of the important parts are missing.
To me the film was really not that good because many details that were described in the book were not in the film. For example, I did not like how they changed Montag's wife's name from Mildread to Linda. That was just a pointless change. I did not like how Faber one of the important characters was not put in the film. To me Faber was the one person that helped Montag speak up about reading books. It felt like the director wanted you to find another reason on how Montag spoke up about books. Another thing that got me was how they left out the mechanical hound. For me the mechanical hound would have been a really cool detail to have in the film.
The way the film was recorded was kind of strange to me. The way some of the angles and lighting were just made scenes not looked good. I felt some scenes could hav been more brighter and had a better angle. The graphics in some parts were blurry and not clear. Special effects were not good. For example when the cops are out looking for Montag the strings that helped them fly, you could see them. There was really no music in the film. The only time you ever heard any was when the firemen got a call. And I would not even called that music, I would have called it noise.
François Truffaut did not do a good job on this film. He did not try hard enough to pull things out of the book and put it in the film. I would have liked it a little better if Faber would have been in it and the graphics were better. I would not suggest going to watch. The film is not worth seeing because if you read the book the film would have let you down.
