You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain. - Harvey Dent

If you have been on YouTube recently, I am sure you have seen the chilling trailer for the new movie, Hereditary. From the trailer alone, there is someone on fire, screaming, blood, death and overall creepiness to the max. I went into the movie theater excited and walked out happy, but confused. Now, I am not going to spoil the fun of the movie for you, for it is something you have to experience yourself, but I wanted to share my thoughts with you on what Hereditary is and where it ends up on the scale of movies in the world.

Ari Aster's Hereditary is not what it looks like in the trailers. Yes, all of the aspects that you see are there, but the story is quite different. Off the bat, it is chilling and spooky, with up close pans, in and out of various character's faces, with very little explanatation as to what is going on. The soundtrack is gorgeous, yet bound to leave you sleeping with a light on and the acting is just as superb. You will hear Toni Collette's screams in your sleep and see Alex Wolff's haunted face in the mirror after you see this movie. The doll world is terrifying, as things begin to happen, the dolls seem to come alive on screen. The characters are well thought out and all have an arc that you follow all the way until you get to the twisted ending. You will never know what hit you. I am still, after a week or so after, thinking about Hereditary and all of the pieces that makes it one of the most satisfyingly scary, but story line confusing movies I have ever seen. It is definitely one to be watched and enjoyed and pondered upon. Rated R.
