The Trouble With Sonnets
A sonnet is a challenge for the mind
Torturous strain to fit the rhyming verse
Something to praise is very hard to find
Nothing has ever proven for the worse.
The soul is crushed when put up to this task
Murder committed, what a tragic scene.
The frowning face a convoluted mask
It’s not all bad, if you know what I mean.
The lines we spin, a work of quick beauty
The beats on time, with rhythm like a drum
The notes combined in perfect harmony
Da-dum, da-dum, the heart’s well tim-ed thrum
While sonnets may be quite too hard to write,
The sounds they make create a warm, sweet light.
