Mute.
Can you please just shut up and listen
To what I have to say?
I’ve heard all of your accusations
But they make no sense anyway
So why should I listen to you
If you refuse to listen to me?
Yelling at me, cutting me off,
And feeling oh so pleased
As if you’ve gotten to the bottom of it
You think you got me shook
I think it’s time for you to stop,
Sit down, and take a look
I’m not a little girl anymore
I’ve grown up. Can’t you see?
I’ve become more mature now
Wouldn’t you agree?
I take my responsibilities seriously
And I’ll admit that most of the time I’m on a cloud
But I do what I have to do
To make you proud
But it’s never enough
There’s always something wrong
You come yelling at me
As often as a hit song
You put me on mute
And never listen to me
You have yet to realize
That I’m not a baby
And when you do
It won’t be such a shock
Hopefully, we’ll sit down somewhere
And just talk
Catch up on some things
And you’ll listen to me too
And reach for the remote
And take me off mute.
