The Gilded Butterflies

So perfect and pretty

Not a care in the world

How nice it must be

To be a butterfly flitting and fluttering about

How nice it must be

To not have to worry about meaningless tasks

How nice it must be

To be such a gorgeous creature

You fly away

Leaving all those who can’t

Behind and beneath you

You can’t hang about

So we laugh,

Laugh at the gilded butterflies

But deep down we know

We long, we crave

To be a gilded butterfly

To have not have to worry

But flit and fly about

We all long to be

So perfect and pretty

To not have a care in the world.

The author's comments:

Hi everyone! I was inspired to write this piece by a quote in "King Lear" written by Shakespeare. The quote is, "We will all laugh at gilded butterflies." Gilded butterflies refers to pretentious people who are unaware of their problems. I love this poem, and I hope you will too! :)
