The odds

Flicker, flicker, flicker,
A candle fights for its cause.
Stands united with its wax and core,
Fighting off the shadows in its inevitably lost battle.
The candle does not give up however,
No matter how much darkness there is…
No matter how heavily the lone flame is outnumbered…
No matter how doomed the struggle to burn may seem…
The candle fights on, a warrior in its own right,
Invincible to the shadow scourge,
Because all the darkness in this infinite universe,
Cannot snuff out the light of even a baby firefly.
