Recovery
Mental injury intoxicates her brain
She's numb to all emotion
Building up walls like an architect
Eliminating her compassion
She longs for her sense of self
Searching and reaching for authenticity
Returning to a life unaltered and unharmed
Unchanged by her circumstances
Determination consumes her mind
As she works to become brighter inside
Tearing down the walls she once built
Recreating who she was
On the road to redemption
She stumbles and falls
But she has to get back up
in order to see results
Running to reach the finish line
She stares straight ahead
Her vision clear and heart healed
Finally feeling like her old self again

This piece was inspired by my own personal journey. This past year was filled with unexpected events and life changing moments. I experienced loss and pain in a way that I never had before. It was difficult to cope with eveything that had happened, but eventually I had to continue moving in order to grow and continue living.
