Little Frog
Ready at the start, the bird’s beak - his gun.
Beginning the race, he leaps over the first hurdle
Landing in fresh mud, the chase continues.
Heart racing, legs pounding, he leaps with ease
The second hurdle, a fallen branch, cleared
His opponent struggles to maintain speed
The path turns, new hurdles to face
As the bird attempts a final lunge before the finish
The frog leaps into the safety the pond provides
The race, over for today
Bird flies away empty with loss
Frog swims, triumphant in victory.
