Maybe In a Little Bit
Maybe in a little bit
two or even three
half empty tea cups
will clink together
Dust brushed off
a ukulele, then set aside
again, questions
asked, then clarified--
the deed then done
A little book of reminders,
lightly sketched
yin yangs and peace
signs, along with a
scavenged picture of
Buddha to remind
us all:
nothing lasts
forever
Five minute departures,
week long interruptions,
and then, unlike
animals, an insignificant
reunion takes place
Soft Cat Stevens
music playing, and then
perhaps we play along,
then leave again
to tend to other
matters
In solitude, fingers
grasp a pen, then
run through shelves
of either knicknacks,
books, or cracker boxes
Temporary tear drops
might drum gently
on a lap desk,
yet soon wiped
off by a sympathetic
arm, blanketed
in a denim jacket
Flimsy shields
against dehumanization,
will still stand
tall, but in a bit
different comrades
will hold them up
for us.
