Emergency
There’s this broken telephone that I
Haven’t picked up in years
Tangled cord, knotting dysfunction
Sun-washed color, 80’s pink
Spinning dial, aging yellow
Busy line
Please hold
Tapping foot,
Break the silence, speak into
The microphone
Frantically waiting
Breath is failing
Leave a message
At the tone
Skip a beat
Air unsweet
Fiery lungs are flared;
My unhappiness is
An emergency but
9-1-1
Never cared.
