I’m sorry Massachusetts, that I wasn’t there on that fatal day.
I’m sorry New York, that when The Towers fell I was only gray.

I’m sorry Vietnam, that I didn’t stand up for you.
I can’t help but feel responsible for your lost crew.

I’m sorry North Korea, but I don’t know what to say.
I’d help your people but you won’t let me stay.

I’m sorry Ireland, for the potato famine of old.
It was unbearably awful, or so I’ve been told.

I’m sorry for all the wars, for which I was born too many decades late.
I’m sorry for all lives wasted, lives that had to wait.

If I could take your sorrows into my own hands,
bundle them up and throw them into trash cans,
I would do it for the world, and everything would be fine.
I would take the tears you grieved, put them next to mine,
I’d wash away all sadness, from every place and time.

The Earth would only rejoice, but then the torrents would strike.
And I’d have to pick up the pieces again, and put them on a pike.
