If We're Being Honest...
You’ve seen it before:
Someone who had it all,
Things were great!
But now they’re lying alone at night
Wondering
“What happened? I never saw it coming!”
It was all too much for them—the success,
The gratification
Of worldly desires,
And was it worth it? Getting what you wanted?
Is it worth it when the prison cell
Closes in
And all your dark secrets crush you?
Sin
Some don’t believe in it,
Some breathe it,
All suffocate in it some day.
It doesn’t matter if you know it’s there,
Like a ghost
It haunts
And takes some otherworldly force to be
Exorcised,
Exhumed from the dark corners of a man’s soul,
Annihilated—
But can you do it alone?
Can the prisoner escape when he himself is
The jailer?
No, so why do we curse the one standing
On the other side,
Peering, reaching through the bars
To take our hand
And guide us out of the maze, and into the
Much needed
Light?
It’s funny, though, since the gate has already
Been opened,
And you have rejected the invitation for freedom,
And have as surely as you have rejected the Light,
embraced Darkness,
so at least stop pretending that you did not receive,
and spurn,
His open hand!
