Over The Edge
Whirling around.
My racing mind whispers a familiar sound.
A childhood ride.
An amusements park wonderland.
File in and sit down.
Prepare for the ride of your despicable life.
Spinning faster and faster.
Increasing with velocity second after second.
don't
fall
off.
It's tempting I know,
to forever let go.
Stop clutching to the handlebars,
and free fall into the mysterious unknown.
over
the
edge.
When will it end?
Will the tears in my memory mend?
I want off this ride,
where people wear blank expressions.
Everyone goes through the motions,
but they never really feel it.
or
do
they?
The rush of the ride.
The piercing, shrill screams echoing from each cart.
They all sound empty to me,
no thought put behind them.
They embody a society of stoic robots.
I was left alone on this ride.
Abandoned by logic and control.
Around and around,
thoughts brimming until I fall,
over
the
edge.
