Less than My Best
“You have to try,”
They’ve told me.
I have to try to live my dream,
Strive to live, to be.
I live to be free,
Move along and leave me to be me.
Yesterday:
I must confess,
I haven’t tried at all
In the past it seems
I’ve only given you less than my best.
“Yesterday is done,”
They tell me I’ve still got to try.
And regardless of how I strive
Nobody seems to notice anything.
alone
without
hope
Today:
I’ll lose my energy, finally finding out who I’m supposed to be
“Today isn’t a gift,” I hear
Well, what’s the point?
Tomorrow:
Less than the best I could ever be
Nothing I did in the past was good enough for you.
