"A room without books is like a body without a soul."

- Cicero

Roman author, orator, & politician (106 BC - 43 BC)

For most
When they look up at the sun,
It beams
And shines onto their faces
As light slips into the
Tiniest nooks
And crevices.

It takes its time until it
Finally
Slithers into their closed eyes
And turns their
Whole
World
Orange

But when I look up at the sun
I can’t help but
Look
The other
Way
And hope to see the soft silhouette
Of the faded but
Prominent,
Gray moon
Struggling to outshine the sun
When the sky is blue
And not tainted with
Darkness

At times when I do catch that
Effervescent moon
I know my father is in his army tent
Looking up at it too
Thinking that oddities
Can truly happen

But I know
What he really wishes
When he sees that
Silvery
Moon.

He longs
To come home,
Watch it with his daughter,
Laugh alongside her,
And say in unison
That miracles really do
Come along

The author's comments:
Army fathers find reassurance when they look up at the same sky their family is looking up at. I would know, my mother was a daughter of one.

Bleed with your pen, not your wrist.

I really love this poem. It really touches something in me because my father is in the army and so is my step mother.

now that I re-read my poem I realize you're kind of right, I would like to move around somethings, but you can't edit poems on here right? Or can you? I'm sorry I'm sort of new to Teenink :)

You are very descriptive.

I have to send an email to the editor, for I noticed many talented poets that have published their poems on the website are not published in the magazine. What's up with that??

I love the descriptive language. :) Great message, too

Oops. I wasn't sure if it posted at all, but apparently it posted twice! Oh, well. That just means a couple extra comments for you! :P

In my opinion, the way you divide the sentences into lines could be improved a bit, but that doesn't really change the quality of the poem a whole lot. I like your descriptive words--especially "effervescent." It's a great concept. I like it. :)

just stumbled across this poem and I cant help but think that it should be more popular! I love the insight behind miracles and how you interwove the struggles of army life into it! Just an amazing poem overall :)

thanks so much! And no, my dad is not in the army but my grandfather was, so I know what it sort of feels like because my mom tells me a lot about it :)

"I can do anything!"

So touching! I love how you started the poem, and then sifted to the moon and then the army. Really good!

I love this! I can feel what the army men and their families feel and I have looked up at the sky and thought about others looking at it too so i can relate.
