How Dancing Heals
The door slams in his face
I turn towards the woods and race away
My anger churns inside me
Like an inescapable ocean, tossing and turning
I can hear his abusive words in my head
Replaying over and over again
I continue to run towards the woods
I don’t look back, I don’t look straight
I just simply try to concentrate
On getting farther and farther away
I allow the night to cloak me
Making me invisible to the world
Because all I want is to not be here
Just to disappear
I trample through dead leaves,
Running among the trees,
Tears have blinded me
And then I fumble with my phone
And turn the music on,
Instinctively, my body moves to the rhythm of the song
But then, the song ends, and I lift my head
A beam of moonlight has slithered its way thru the canopy of leaves
It lands on me, falling over my shoulders
Like locks of heir blowing in the breeze
De-dum de-dum
And my heart regains its beat
