Listen to the birds
as they fly south
high over my head
in October
Flapping in the
gray blue sky
beside the big white moon
cawing to me below
Goodbye
til next year
Their black wings wave
and wave
while the wind rushes
below
All around me in the bright
orange
leaves
Turning brown
beneath my boots all
muddy
and wet from supper time
rain
And pumpkin pie smiles
and corn.
