sebastian
a red plastic box
sits unclaimed on my classroom shelf
the label on the front is fading
‘sebastian’ scrawled indelicately in black sharpie across it
there’s not a sebastian in this class
nor in any other class in this school
none of the
students
or staff
or teachers
remember him
an unknown little boy
whose existence is proved only by
the flimsy plastic box that bears his name
fleeting is inevitable
will what i leave behind bear my name well?
