Are people like teeth too?
The day I lost my tooth,
Was awhile ago heading up to grade four.
I’d run my tongue along the lifeless gap,
Where my tooth had been before.
I remember the bloody gauze,
And stuck out my mouth wide in front of my mum.
While the uneven gap might feel like a big change,
She told me that a brand new tooth would start growing in my gum.
In a while the gap would stop feeling so strange,
I wouldn’t notice that the tooth was ever gone.
The only reason I seem to miss it now after many years,
Was it’s because it was there for quite so long.
Then slowly but surely many years back,
In the gap a new tooth grew.
And now it makes me wonder,
If people are like teeth too.
