Lines
Lines create symbols
that loop into numbers on a scale,
shattering our confidence.
They measure affluence,
demanding the lifelong pursuit
of intangible success.
They determine intelligence,
an extra curved stroke or plus sign
deciding an average, swaying an acceptance.
Lines form words
that console our broken hearts,
and reunify burnt brides.
They produce elaborate lies,
perpetuating toxicity
and redefining our belief in love.
They can further repress our anxieties
or grant us liberation.
Lines draw barriers
that separate nations,
sifting people out like unwanted lumps.
They encourage extremism,
spark rebellions,
and ignite the flames of war.
They divide us politically,
pitting neighbors against one another
and leading our home towards irreparable disunity.
Lines.
These trivial mathematical figures
hold such profound influence over our
humanity.
