winter woe
My cat plays poker with ghosts and he's losing fast
My fish plays dead and I don't know when he'll move again
My Christmas tree is a recovering addict just trying to escape the streets
And I can't stay warm in this bitter Missouri winter
My bones creak
My cat purrs when I pet his head
My fish blows bubbles when I feed him
And the Christmas trees fading lights represent his will to live
And that can be said of the rest of us
Fading into a winter landscape
That will barely melt into spring
Then summer hits like a truck
And my cat will start selling potions to the newly active squirrels
My fish will continue to sleep
And my Christmas tree will be barely relevant
but he'll cling to existence because he didn't
clean up his act just to be put out again
