My Pillow's Bath
“The world is being rent and torn
What matters one more rending and tearing?”*
I am left here alone and forlorn
Thin my fragile endurance is wearing
I’m busy and still I’m bored out of my mind
I need rest and sleep and quiet and a friend
I smile but no one ever responds in kind
I see nothing promising round the bend
Nothing makes it easy anymore
Every night my pillow takes a bath
I feel so lost, rejected and so bored
The curve obscures what meets me on the path.
Am I the only one who feels this way?
Am I the one destined to fall behind?
I try to smile each and every day,
but no one ever does respond in kind.
