Too Close
Down by the sea shore,
slopes of sculpted sand
rose up the beach like a castle.
A young girl with a playful heart
and ocean-blue eyes
crafted the structure with her pale hands.
The pillars of the castle
were tall like the leaf of a rice plant.
The crystal-like sand
shimmered in the radiant sun,
but one mistake she did make.
As the mighty waves
crashed onto the gentle seashore,
the cooling water flowed
into the wide gates of the castle,
where each drop of water
left a hole in the thick walls of the citadel.
Without realizing this,
The girl strolled away to a distant land.
When dust came around,
The girl returned in search of her artwork,
but found a pile of gleaming sand
that was lit by the radiant evening sun..
They were wet like tears;
they were shattered and crushed
like her hopes and dreams.
The strong waves had trampled them
and now they lay
somewhere far beneath the ocean deep,
where she could never get them again.
She knew she had no time
to make another castle,
so she left the sea-shore with a wrecked heart.
