We Were Younger Then

Where did you go that day?
The day the flowers bloomed
We were younger then
But that’s just time on a clock

The day the flowers bloomed
We were in my backyard for hours
But that’s just time on a clock
Memories make true time.

We were in my backyard for hours
Playing children’s games
Memories make true time
Growing from the flowering joy

Playing children’s games
Picking flowers
Growing from the flowering joy
We hid in the largest blossom

Picking flowers
Running, laughing, dancing
We hid in the largest bloom
Trying to avoid the world

Running, laughing, dancing
Around my mother’s garden roses
Trying to avoid the world
While we knew the time had come

Around my mother’s garden roses
Where did you go that day?
While we knew the time had come
But we were younger then

This is really good and has a great flow! I love the tone of it.

It's never to late, if it weren't for the last minute many things would never get done!

Really nice poem. I liked the way you described memories as true time. I also can relate to people being with you all happy when your young and then leaving you as they get older. The pattern structure helps it flow nicely. Great poem!
