I am not my sister.
How do you separate yourself from someone who lives in the same house as you, maybe in the same room, who attends the same school and who you see at the dinner table every night?
Your sibling, an endless source of comparison. Who scored more As on their report card? Who's better at sports? Who's taller? Who's prettier? It's hard to build your identity when you're trying so hard to be better than someone else. Every move is scrutinised.
But, at the same time, their your biggest supporter. Who will you go to when you want to eat a midnight snack with someone? Who will you tell when you like someone for the first time? Who else will you be " as close as sisters" with, if not your sister?
A sibling is both a blessing and a curse. And, comparing yourself to your sibling and living in their shadow is one of life's hardest challenges. The trick? Don't take up the challenge.
