I Have a Dream to Be the Change in the World
Have you ever had someone influence you or changed your life? Martin Luther King Jr. was a man who did that for the better. Martin Luther king Jr. was a Baptist minister and social activist who led the civil rights movement in the United States from the mid-1950s until his death by assassination in 1968. MLK was a big change toward the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s.
Growing up in the prejudice country, King never stopped giving up. “His family lived on Auburn Avenue, otherwise known as “Sweet Auburn”, the bustling “black Wall Street”, home to some of the country’s largest and most prosperous black businesses and black churches in the years before the civil rights movement ”[Seattetimes.com]. King favored studies in medicines and law then choose ministry. At the age of 15, in the year of 1944, King entered Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. He was under a special wartime program intended to boost enrollment by admitting promising high school students. Martin Luther King Jr. believed that his “four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character” [www.usconstitution.net] . These ideas one day became a speech.
Martin Luther King Jr’s famous speech “I Have a Dream” changed many people’s lives. King summoned together a number of black leaders in 1957. He was president of the leaders and changed other discriminated African American’s point of view on whites. The death of Martin Luther king Jr. caused a wave of violence on major southern cities across the United States. This shows how people cared for King, speech was awarded a Nobel Peace prize in 1964.
In the year 1964, Martin Luther King Jr. rewarded the Nobel Peace prize. King was the prime mover of the Montgomery bus boycott. After the boycott blacks were allowed to sit in the front of the bus. “The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) saw King’s movement toward the civil rights as “a serious tactical mistake” [http://nobelprize.org]
Martin Luther king Jr. Not only changed his families life’s, but impacted everyone else in the world from the civil rights movement. As a kid, even though he was living in the poorer side of town, King never gave up and provided freedom reign for all the colors of the world. The big change in the world was his speech in August 28, 1963. The speech was “I Have a Dream”, he wanted everyone to know the message of black and whites coming together as one. “I Have a Dream” was so famous that he was awarded the Nobel Peace prize in 1964. King has impacted many people and still is. Even though he is dead we apply his speech into our lives. He was a huge change to our world. If King didn’t stand up for all the different races, we would be living in an altered world.
