Kris and His Dad at the Ballpark - A Screenplay
EXT-BASEBALL FIELD-AFTER BASEBALL GAME
KRIS DJELLBEHREE and his FATHER are having a very heated argument on whether or not Kris should continue to play baseball. KRIS sustained a minor injury on the last play of the game. Somehow, they also have started arguing whether or not that baseball is a sport.
KRIS DJELLBEHREE
Continue playing baseball, why would I ever do that?
FATHER
It is so fun to play! You were having so much fun out there today!
KRIS DJELLBEHREE
(giving his dad a look)
I’m just a great actor.
FATHER
No son, your mother and I know that you really do enjoy baseball.
KRIS DJELLBEHREE
No, I don’t. In fact, I think that in reality you are just trying to convince yourself that I like baseball when really, I don’t.
FATHER
Now now...
KRIS DJELLBEHREE
Stop it! Just admit it!
FATHER
Well....
KRIS DJELLBEHREE
Well what?
FATHER
Ok ok, I just really like baseball myself. I even played once.
KRIS DJELLBEHREE
(staring at his father in shock)
Really?
FATHER
Yea, and I really love watching you play, that's all.
KRIS DJELLBEHREE
(looking surprised)
Oh, well, I didn’t know that. That's really cool.
FATHER
(smiling)
Look, just trust me on this one. Baseball gets better, and more fun. You really will enjoy it if you keep on playing.
KRIS DJELLBEHREE
Alright then, I’ll try doing it for a little while longer, to see if you’re right.
FATHER
Alright! That is all I ask.
KRIS DJELLBEHREE
Ok, we’ll see how it turns out for me.
FATHER
I’m really proud of you, son. I just wanted you to know that.
KRIS DJELLBEHREE
(patting his stomach)
Thanks dad. Now, how bout some dinner?
FATHER
(Smile widening)
Sounds great!
