Final Day of Sunrise Dance Ceremony
This image is one of what I had planned to be four of the "Sunrise Dance" pieces. This painting is based off of the dance that happens the fourth and final day of the Apache girl's coming-of-age ceremony. She kneels on a buckskin mat as the medicine man of her tribe chants behind her and the people of the tribe sing along. This part of the ceremony is supposed to rid the young woman of evil spirits. I wanted to eventually complete four canvases representing the four days. This is the second piece but it tells a story of the last day...I don't know why I didn't go chronologically. Anyway, this was created with acrylic paint.
